Collected Works! 30 years with the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation

What has happened in Swedish art since
1986? The Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation has supported young artists
for 30 years. Now all 79 artists who have received the grant so far are
gathered in this exhibition that will give unique insights into Swedish
contemporary art history.

Here are some more photos from the Medicinewheel from the exhibition Kännbart that is travelling to different museums in Sweden. Now it is in Umeå.
KÄNNBART *
A Swedish art project
Art has a unique ability of reaching the inner self of us. The art project Kännbart explores the experiences of art and communication without hearing or vision. Vision represents 80% of our senses. Hearing represents 10 - 15%. How can we work with art when these two senses are not included? Kännbart explores expressions together with people with deafblindness.
The target group of the exhibition is individuals with deafblindness, people with vision and hearing impairment. At the same time it is an opportunity for anyone to meet art with new senses, anyone who is interested in experiencing art in a new way.
Six contemporary artists will create six new unique art pieces. The art pieces for this project will be addressed to a spectra of senses normally not in focus at the art scene. This exhibition gives us a new form of communication and understanding of emotions through art. The art is produced with new techniques and materials exclusively for Kännbart. Every artist is focused on new dimensions for the experience of art; experiences without vision or hearing, the scent of art, the thought of art, the air of art and a new awareness of art. All artists work in close contact with or in collaborations with people with deafblindness to really find these new paths that have not been walked before. The Swedish Exhibition Agency (Riksutställningar) provides knowledge of new possibilities in materials and techniques to new art forms and expressions.
Kännbart is a platform for communication and meetings between individuals and art. It is also a project of accessibility and democracy. Art is one of the primary foundations for creativity and insights when it comes to: what it is to be a human being? Every society needs all of us to contribute to the shared knowledge and art is a prominent factor in understanding ourselves and the world. Therefore, the group of people with deafblindness is our leading reference and people with deafblindness are represented in both the operational project group and the steering committee.
Demonstration of the exhibition will be in Swedish sign language and spoken Swedish. Some of the demonstrators, hosts and guides at the museums will be people with deafblindness, deafness and people with visual impairment. Children from preschools and schools will be specially invited with guides that will key to a younger group which gives the children opportunity to explore and create their own art.
During the exhibition there will be seminaries, lectures and courses in related subjects held by people with deafblindness. Who will mediate and spread knowledge about deafblindness via adult education to the society, which is the main objective of The ABF of Sweden (ABF).
Kännbart opens in Örebro, November 2015. During 2016 and 2017 Kännbart will visit twelve different locations in Sweden.
The head of the art project Kännbart is The ABF of Örebro district (ABF Örebro län) in collaboration with the Association of the Swedish Deafblind (FSDB) and Swedish Exhibition Agency (Riksutsställningar). Funds for the project are provided by the Swedish Inheritance Fund (Arvsfonden).

The Medicine Wheel
Images from the opening of "Kännbart" where we showed our installation "The Medicine Wheel" Where you can make shamanic journeys with sounds you can feel in your body through the floor and the sculptures. This project is for everybody regardless of disabilities such as blindness and deafness. On the opening Asha Kowalska held a ceremony.
On the last image you see me drumming for a a group of blind and deaf travelers and their interpretors. It is possible for everybody to travel in this way and experience great things.

First tryout of The Medicinewheel
We tested the medicinewheel while building up the exhibition at Örebro Länsmuseum. Here is a short excerpt of a journey filmed by Jana Landerås, one of the translators for tactile signlanguage. The travelers were blind , deaf and some were translators . After the journey we did a sharing and everybody told about their experiences. The whole medicienwheel works like a resonating drum and it is very much possible for everybody no matter "disability" to travel in this way.
I was convinced it would work , but it was magical to make it happen. The travelers met falcons, were inside music, were running with buffaloherds, were running and riding on plains, travelled back in time and met their parents, walked in forests they have once seen , felt safe and protected by the wooden structure and the elementals we had built.
It was a truly healing experience and gave inspiration to continue to explore journeying for the participants and for me to continue this path.
Feeling thankful that I could share this experience with the ones who were there.

SOLVE ET COAGULA
It all started with a package. Our daughter, Lila, who was at this time 6 months old, recieved a book from her grandfather. Inside the book was a curious letter.
The book was a collection of fairy tales about knights and chivalery. A short version of Don Quixote was included in this book but also a story by Paul Féval about a knight called Jeannin.
Our daughters grandfather hinted at the possibility that we might be related to this knight and that the story was in fact not a work of fiction.
Sometimes fiction is more true than facts the letter ended.
We started a journey in search for the knight, but it actually turned out to be more of an inner alchemical journey of discovery.
Solve et Coagula means to dissolve and recombine. It is how alchemists work.
Most actingparts in the film are played by members of the Jeannin family.
The film was shot in Bretagne and Sweden in 2014 and the animated parts were created and the film was edited and completed in 2015.
All the music was made by our daughter Lila when she was 7 months old using a moog-app on the i-pad. She had a period when she created dark ambient music that we think captures the soul of the film.

MEDICINHJULET / The Medicine Wheel
Lite om vårat verk som snart kommer att ge sig ut på turné i Kännbart utställningen

MEDICINHJULET
Om verket:
Vi börjar i öster där solen går upp och det är vår. Det handlar om inspiration och nya perspektiv på tillvaron. Det här är luftens element och vi möter en fågel som har ett klot av vulkaniskt glas i sina händer.
Vi fortsätter till söder , det är mitt på dagen, sommar och det handlar om att dela insikterna man fått i luften.
Här finns en orm som är en representant för eldens element, en lärare.
I väst är det skymning och höst och vi har kommit till vattnets element. Här finns en varelse med ett vattensköldpaddsskal. I vattnets element handlar det om att förstå och släppa mönster som inte tjänar oss i att vara de vi verkligen är. Det handlar om flödet av känslor och förmågan att förlåta och gå vidare.
Till sist har vi kommit till norr, natten och jordens element. Jorden är platsen där de tre drömmarna bor. Dagdrömmen, Nattens Dröm och Livsdrömmen. Här kan vi fyllas av drömmar som är stora och vidsträckta. Här bor en lurvig varelse med älghorn. Detta är platsen för det stora ingentinget, det är här vi kommer tillbaka till det stora mysteriet för att efter drömmarna åter igen få våra visioner i gnistan som föds i öster.
Detta medicinhjul är en fysisk struktur för att kunna göra andliga resor. Vi kan koppla upp oss mot en annan verklighet genom att känna trummans rytm i golvet och i ett mönster av grenar och hos de varelser som finns i de fyra riktningarna.
I många ursprungskulturer tex hos Samerna , i Tibet, hos de Nordamerikanska indianerna och hos många andra folk reser man på detta vis. Man kan bara låta det få hända som händer i ens fantasi , känslor och tankar. En del gör så här: Man föreställer sig en plats i naturen som har någon slags öppning och när man har hittat den i sin fantasi så går men igenom/ hoppar ner / eller tar sig igenom denna öppning på något annat vis. En del föreställer sig kanske en grotta man går in i med ett hål som man hoppar ner i. När man har kommit ut på andra sidan har man hamnat i en annan värld och förmodligen i ett behagligt trancetillstånd. I denna värld är det vanligt att man möter guider som kan vara djur eller andra fantastiska varelser som kan stötta, stärka och lära oss saker.
Det är därför det kallas ett medicinhjul hos Indianerna, för att genom dessa inre resor och insikter i livets cykler helar vi oss själva och stärks som människor.
Man kommer att kunna resa när som helst under utställningens gång med förinspelat ljud. I bland kommer shamanen Asha att aktivera medicinhjulet och trumma live och man kommer att kunna resa tillsammans med henne och prata om sina upplevelser efteråt i gruppen.Om konstnärerna
Lisa Jeannin och Rolf Schuurmans bor i Småland men arbetar i hela världen. Deras konst sträcker sig mellan det övernaturliga och den magiska realismen. Konstnärsduon delar en passion för att materialisera ideer, tankar och känslor. De skapar metaforer för orientering i det undermedvetna med hjälp av film, performance och skulptur.
När Lisa var 10 år träffade hon en shaman som hette Ulla och började göra trumresor. Hon träffade ett rådjur som visade henne hur hon kunde finjustera sina kosmiska antenner.
I sina resor har hon hämtat styrka och kraft som hjälpte henne att orka med skoltiden där hon var mobbad som barn och har senare i livet bland annat rest tillsammans med bin i växtriket och lärt sig om hur man gör örtmediciner för bin och människor och annat värdefullt.
I samband med Kännbart byggde Lisa och Rolf egna trummor och gjorde resor för att hitta formen för verket. Rolf träffade en buffel och en ny värld öppnade sig. Om Asha, med hennes egna ord:
Hej jag är Asha Men många i vår värld runt om känner mig som Lighthealingpeace. Jag är 40 år gammal och är nästan helt blind ser ingenting med höger och ser under 1% med vänstra ögat.
Den andliga världen är och har alltid varit en del av mitt liv och jag tror inte att jag skulle klara mig så bra utan den.
Att ha börjat att vandra den här vägen - shamanens väg - har fått mig att stå med båda fötterna på jorden. Den har givit mig mera balans och att vara lugn och observant och lyssna in människor och även guiderna. Jag skulle absolut rekommendera den här vägen till flera för man bygger upp sig själv i den här världen.
När man trummar händer mycket inom en och jag vet att flertal känner att dom får healing och påfyllning genom att vara med på ceremonier där man trummar och bjuder in allt som tillhör från väsen till moderjord till änglar och universum självt.
